The Garden at The Line: 4,000+ Sq Ft of Commercial Turf for a Sacramento Beer Garden

The Garden at The Line is a commercial kitchen commissary and beer garden in Sacramento. When the owners started looking at artificial turf for the outdoor space, they needed something that could take constant foot traffic, look good every single day for guests, and go in fast enough that the venue wasn't sitting half-finished during the busy season.

They found us through a Google search in April. We walked the site, sent the bid, and they signed three days later.

The Job

This was a 4,000+ square foot install inside an existing hardscape perimeter. That changes the work in a few ways:

• No dig-out. The area was already prepped as a blank slate, so the crew's time went into base, seams, and finish instead of excavation.
• Tight edges everywhere. Turf meeting existing concrete and structures has to be cut and secured precisely. On a residential yard a sloppy edge is an eyesore. At a venue, it's a trip hazard.
• Multiple seam configurations. A space this size means a lot of turf rolls joined together. Seams are where cheap installs fail first, and in a high-traffic commercial space every one of them gets tested daily.

A Mid-Project Upgrade: Cooler Turf

Midway through the install, the owners asked about heat. Sacramento summers push surface temperatures up fast, and a beer garden lives or dies on whether people want to sit outside. We added a cooling infill across 2,000 square feet of the highest-use area, so guests are more comfortable on the hottest afternoons.

Who Did the Work

The install ran May 7 through May 19, led by our foreman Gerry with Abel, Javi, and Tavo. Same in-house crew, start to finish. No subcontracted day labor.

Why It Matters If You Run a Business

Commercial turf is a different job than a backyard. You need a contractor who shows up with a real schedule, works cleanly around an operating business, and builds it to take abuse.
